The following was provided by his grandson Peter Monck

Frederick Monck known as Fred was born on 20th May 1896. He was employed at Egglescliffe Chemical Company in Urlay Nook and married May Earle on 17th July 1915 and enlisted in Stockton on the 10th December 1916 whilst living in Lord Nelson Yard. His war record is as follows:

25th April 1917: Posted for duty
10th August 1917: Posted to Base Depot Northumberland Fusiliers
11th August 1917: He Landed in France and was posted to 1/4th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers
24th August 1917: Transferred to 1/4th Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry batallion and posted to 10th battalion Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Assigned a new regimental number.
29th September 1917: He took part in the Battle of POLYGON WOOD
4th October 1917: He took part in the Battle of BROODSEINDE
26th October 1917: He took part in the Second Battle of PASSCHENDAELE, and was on the front line. His battalion were holding the line while the units at either side were attacking to straighten out the front line. The Germans shelled them while the attack was under way and Fred he was badly wounded in the head by shrapnel.
11th November 1917: He become a father while he was in France. Muriel Monck was born.
14th November 1917: He was evacuated back to England due to his injuries.
9th December 1917: posted 4th Reserve battalion Kings own Yorkshire Light Rugley Camp.
26th May 1918: Posted to Command Depot
13th July 1918: Posted 4th Reserve Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
15th August 1918: Embarked from Folkstone for Boulogne. 16th August 1918: Posted to 5th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
17th August 1918: Joined Depot in Etaples Posted to F Coy.
24th August 1918: Posted to 2nd Battalion King's own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
31st August - 3rd September 1918: Second battle of BAPAUME where he he suffered Mustard Gas Burns.
29th September - 2nd October 1918: Battle of St QUENTIN.
3rd and 4th October 1918: Battle of BEAUREVOIR LINE
4th November 1918 Battle of SAMBRE - OISE CANAL
15th November 1918: Admitted to 90th Field Ambulance due to boils on his neck.
19th November 1918: Admitted to 47th General Hospital Le Treport France
5th December 1918 Posted to Depot

After the War had finished Fred and May moved to Blyth Gardens Worsall Road, Yarm and had another five children:
Joan M Monck born 1920, Edith May Monck born on 28 February 1921, Bertram Monck born on 9 September 1922, Beatrice Monck born 1924 and Geoffrey Monck born 1928.
Joan Died in childbirth in 1945 and her daughter Susan was brought up by Fred and May.
May died in 1973 aged 76 and Fred in 1980 aged 84.Below is a photograph of Fred seated with, it is believed one of his brothers.
